  • TOUR DESCRIPTION SOUTH SAHARA

    THE GREAT SOUTH TUNISIA


    A tour that combines history, culture, off-road driving, and discovery of southern Tunisia.


    Day 1:

    Arrival at the port of La Goulette in Tunis, transfer to Hammamet, a renowned seaside resort and Arab town located on the Mediterranean coast. Transfer via highway to a 5-star hotel with secure, secure parking. Dinner and overnight stay.


    Day 2:

    After breakfast, departure for Kairouan. The first Arab and Muslim city in North Africa, Kairouan was an important center for the spread of Islam and the Arabic language in the Maghreb. The city still holds a special place for local Muslims, especially during Mouled, the birth of the Prophet Muhammad, when believers from all over Tunisia and other countries flock to participate in the celebrations.

    With its medina and markets organized by oriental guilds, its mosques and other religious buildings, Kairouan was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1988. In 2009, it was proclaimed the Capital of Islamic Culture by the World Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. Its ancient Great Mosque and the Barber's Mausoleum, which we will visit, are famous.

    We continue via Gafsa until we reach Touzeur, the largest date-producing oasis in Tunisia.


    Day3:

    After breakfast, an early departure by horse-drawn carriage to discover the heart of the oasis producing the highest quality dates. Return to the hotel and continue along the famous Rommel Trail, the Feldja Gorges, where phosphate trains still pass through tunnels dug into the mountain! We then continue to the mountain oases on the border with Algeria, then walk through the village of Chebika, where the film "Jesus of Nazareth" was filmed, and visit the Tamerza oasis with its waterfall. Optional lunch at a characteristic restaurant at the oasis' source. Return to the hotel in Touzer.


    Day4:

    Departure after breakfast to cross the Chott El Jerid, the largest salt pan in North Africa with its mirages.

    Arrival in Douz, the gateway to the Sahara, the last city before entering the world's largest sand desert. Stop for an optional lunch and continue via gas plane along the road of the oil wells to the famous and colorful oasis of Ksar Ghilane, where you can bathe in the natural hot water pool that flows from underground. For those who wish, a camel ride to the Roman fort of Tisavar, surrounded by orange sand dunes and offering breathtaking views.

    Accommodation in our resort in air-conditioned tents with private bathrooms, dinner, a fun evening, and overnight stay.


    Day 5:

    After breakfast, depart for an unforgettable adventure among the great dunes of the Eastern Sahara Erg to experience an exciting and unforgettable day deep in the Sahara Desert! Arrival in a unique area where you will find a private nomad bivouac set up just for you, settling into tents, spending the night under the stars, a demonstration of how to prepare and cook bread baked in the sand, and dinner in the desert featuring local specialties, cooked on site by our talented nomad chefs. A fun evening around the fire, and a night in tents under the stars of the immense Sahara.


    Day 6:

    After breakfast around the fire, experiencing the thrill of waking up in the immensity of the true desert, we depart through dunes and marvelous spaces until we return to the hotel in the Ksarghilane oasis to collect our motorcycles.

    Continue towards the land of the Berber Ksour! Arrival at the Berber village of Chenini in the rocky mountains, visit the village, still inhabited by real Berber families, its ancient olive press, and the mysterious and magical Mosque of the Seven Sleepers. Then, continue to Ksar Adada, a UNESCO World Heritage site where many scenes from the Star Wars saga were filmed. Continue through the Dhor mountains, where time seems to have stood still, until reaching our wonderful accommodation, where we will sleep in characteristic rooms carved into the rock and sample specialties of Berebar cuisine.


    Day 7:

    In the morning, after a hearty breakfast, depart for the lunar mountains of Matmata, where most of the Star Wars saga was filmed. Visit a troglodyte dwelling dug into the earth, where we will be offered delicious regional tea made with the aromatic herbs that characterize the area. Departure towards Gabes to take the highway, arriving in the late afternoon at Port El Kantaoui, a famous tourist destination on the sea and on the central-northern coast of Tunisia. Accommodation and dinner at a 5-star hotel. Possibility of an evening out at a trendy club.


    Day 8:

    After breakfast, Departure back home happy and complete with joy and the thought to retur back again..!
